Jack Meriwether joined the MSA community in 2018 as the dorm director for Old Main and the head coach of the boys varsity basketball team. In his five seasons at The Miller School, Coach Meriwether has put together a record of 96-42, including a BRAC regular season and tournament championship, along with five state tournament appearances, three state semi-final appearances, and two appearances in the state title game—capped off by winning the 2023-2024 VISAA Division II State Championship with a 64-44 win over the Highland School. Meriwether was selected as the 2024 BRAC Coach of the Year, the 2024 Central Virginia Coach of the Year, and 2024 VISAA Division II Coach of the Year.
In his five seasons at Miller, Meriwether has had 10 VISAA All-State selections, including 2024 VISAA Division II State Player of the Year (Jason Clarke, 2024) and 2023 BRAC Conference Player of the Year (Eli Delaurier, 2023). In Meriwether’s tenure, 14 Mavericks have gone on to play college basketball, including nine at the NCAA Division I level. 2021 Miller School graduate Clarence Rupert started as a freshman on the St. Peter’s team that became the first 15-seed in NCAA tournament history to make it to the Elite Eight.
Meriwether grew up in Charlottesville and attended Tandem Friends School, where he was a standout on the Badger’s basketball team. He made his return to the area after serving as head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he became the school’s all-time leader in Mountain East Conference wins. Prior to WVWC, Jack coached basketball around the state of Virginia, spending two seasons with Fork Union Military Academy’s post-graduate team, one season with Randolph College, and three years as the recruiting coordinator and 17U assistant coach for Boo Williams Nike EYBL team.
When he isn’t watching film or designing new plays, Jack’s likely learning a new board game to play with his wife Cortney and their two children, Bennett and Simon.
